Obituary of Michael Kost
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Kost, a beloved member of the Brier City community. On Monday, December 18th, at the age of 75, Michael peacefully left this world surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own home. Born on May 10, 1948, in Black Heath, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John and Helen Kost. Michael’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Early Life and Family
Michael’s journey began in the close-knit community of Cass Township, Pennsylvania. Growing up in a loving household, he was raised with strong values and a deep sense of faith. He attended St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church in Minersville and graduated from Minersville High School in 1968. Michael’s upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and a commitment to his family and community.
Career and Hobbies
Throughout his professional life, Michael excelled as a self-employed contractor and co-owner of KAP Contracting. His dedication and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook. When he wasn’t working, Michael enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation. He cherished family card nights, embraced the thrill of hunting and fishing, and honed his skills in trap shooting at the Big Hill Gun Club. Atlantic City held a special place in his heart, as he loved the excitement of the casinos.
Surviving Family Members
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, D. Susan (Lord), his daughter Amanda S. Culbert and her husband Eric, his son Michael J. Kost, and his beloved grandchildren Ethan, Aiden, and Emma Culbert. He is also survived by his sister Dolores Novack and her husband Michael, his sister-in-law Donna Mitchell and her husband Joseph, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Michael’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Requiem Divine Liturgy
On Wednesday, December 27th, 2023, at eleven o’clock in the morning, the Requiem Divine Liturgy will take place at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church. The church is located at 415 North Front Street in Minersville. The Reverend Mark Fesniak will preside over the ceremony, guiding us in a solemn and meaningful tribute to Michael’s life.
Prior to the start of the ceremony, there will be a visitation held in the church. From ten o’clock in the morning until the beginning of the Requiem Divine Liturgy, friends, family, and members of the community are invited to gather and offer their condolences. This will be an opportunity to share memories, offer support, and find solace in the presence of others who loved and admired Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association National Direct Response. He also had a fondness for visiting casinos, with Atlantic City being his favorite destination. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings. A Requiem Divine Liturgy will be held on December 27th at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church in Minersville.
