It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mary Frances Hertz, a beloved member of the community. Mary Frances, affectionately known as Fran, passed away on Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Schuylkill, Pennsylvania. She was 75 years old and resided in Hilltop, Cass Township. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Early Life and Education
Fran was born on January 15, 1948, in Heckscherville, Cass Township. She was the daughter of Harold Callaghan and Margaret Callaghan, formerly known as O’Brien. Fran had a thirst for knowledge and excelled academically. She graduated from Nativity B.V.M. High School in 1965 and later attended Empire Beauty School. Her dedication to learning and her passion for education were evident throughout her life.
Fran’s professional journey was diverse and fulfilling. She worked as a paraprofessional at the South Vo-Tech School in Mar-Lin, where she made a positive impact on the lives of countless students. In addition to her role in education, Fran pursued her passion for cosmetology and worked as a skilled cosmetologist. She also served as a school bus driver for the Renninger Transportation Company-Newtown. Fran’s dedication to her work and her commitment to helping others were truly admirable.
Family and Personal Life
Fran’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was married to her loving husband, Paul R. Hertz, for 53 years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Fran was a devoted mother to her three children: Paul R. Hertz, Ronald Hertz, and Joslyn McKenna. She was also a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Paul, Lauren, Christopher, and Alexis. Fran’s love and support were unwavering, and her family was the center of her world.
The funeral arrangements for Fran will be held at the Dutcavich Funeral Home, located at 200 Sunbury Street in Minersville. The family will be present to receive guests on Tuesday, December 26, starting at 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, starting at 6:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church, located at 539 Sunbury Street in Minersville. The internment will take place at a later time, according to the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Holy Family Parish, located at 542 Sunbury Street in Minersville, in honor of Fran’s memory.
